Our Story

Why "18"?

The vision began with 9 luxury suites, for 18 guests. When we found the perfect spot for the lodge, we imagined the lodge at the top of the hill. And there we go, 18 On The Hill, was born.

The number 18 means life, to us and our team, the lodge is a celebration of life and longevity. Cheers to that!

What is 18 On The Hill?

More than a safari lodge

18 On The Hill is a 5-star luxury safari lodge in the Maseke Game Reserve, Balule Nature Reserve, sharing unfenced borders with the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The lodge offers nine 100 m² tented suites with private plunge pools across 10,000 hectares of Big 5 wilderness, and is one of the world's only fully dedicated certified Glatt Kosher luxury safari lodges supervised by qualified Mashgichim.

Our Motto

Our motto is I matutu vana va tavasi which means It is plenty in Tsonga, the language of the lowveld. 18 On The Hill’s promise to you since opening in August 2025, is plenty of unforgettable moments that enrich the soul from our safaris, to our accommodation, dining, service and everything in between.

Location and traverse

10,000 hectares of paradise

Maseke Game Reserve, spans over 8000 hectares of untouched wilderness, within the Balule Nature Reserve region. Our guided safari game drives take place on this vast landscape, as well as an additional 2000 hectares of riverfront traverse, where the Olifants River flows.

Conservation

For the love of the land

Something close to our hearts. The lodge contributes to Maseke's and Balule Nature Reserve's conservation efforts to curb Rhino poaching, ecology, conservation of wildlife and endangered species. The Kruger is a gem that we need to look after, and we invite guests to fall in love with the land, like we did. we have.

Kosher

Dedicated Kitchen

Completely separate, our Kosher kitchen is equipped with everything required to give our Kosher guests peace of mind, and a top-level taste of Africa. It has designated meat and milk/dairy sections, used solely under strict supervision by trained and approved Mashgichim (Kosher supervisors). Our Kosher kitchen is certified under the South African Beis Din.

18 On The Hill operates one of Africa's only fully dedicated Glatt Kosher kitchens at a luxury safari lodge. The kitchen is entirely separate from any non-kosher preparation areas and is supervised by qualified Mashgichim, delivering gourmet kosher cuisine — from boma under the stars to candlelit dinners — without compromise in the heart of the Greater Kruger wilderness.
